Finishing up
At this point, your script should look like one of the sample scripts. Here's a checklist of things you must do before using the share feature to send your script to the editors.
Pre-share Checklist
- Read your story out loud to yourself. This is critical. You'll catch most of your own errors this way.
- Make sure you have a headline and summary
- Make sure all your sources have a link below the element (if you got the video from Shadow or Snapstream, use a generic link to the news outlet's website)
- Transcribe all your soundbites
- Spell check
- Add any pronouncers (pronunciation guides for tough names/words)
- Double check to make sure your sources are not AP/Reuters/wire
- Check out the editorial rubric you'll be graded on. You can find a hard copy in the newsroom or download it here:
Editorial Grading Rubric | |
File Size: | 123 kb |
File Type: | docx |
If you've done all these things, use the share feature to send your story to the list of editors. It's also probably a good idea to let someone know you're finished. Two editors will look at your script. In the meantime, make sure you've captured and saved all your elements to your computer and are ready to transfer to the server.
