How to put your story in Admin
This section features step-by-step instructions on how to put your story in Admin. For those who are visual learners, check out the sample Admin image about half way down this tutorial.
Open FIREFOX and go to http://www1.newsy.com/admin |
After entering your username and password, you'll be taken to the navigation page. Click on "Add New Video".
Adding the headline, summary, script and category
- From main administration page, click "Add New Video"
- Copy the script from your Google Doc into a Word Doc.
- From your Word Doc, copy your headline into the "Headline" box
- From your Word Doc, copy over your summary into the "Summary" box
- From your Word Doc, copy the body of your story. Make sure the text in your Google Doc is Arial size 10. DO NOT PASTE DIRECTLY INTO "TRANSCRIPT" SECTION
- Click on the icon at the top of the transcript section that looks like a little clipboard with a "W" on top
- Paste your transcript in the box that pops up. (This changes your text to plain script)
- Categorize your story by checking the box next to your story's category. If you are unsure where it belongs, just ask!
Adding a link to the image source
- The very top line in the transcript section should look like this: (Image source: Source Name)
- You should have saved the link to your image in your Google Doc script. If you need help finding a NON WIRE image, see the image guide here.
- Copy the link to your image from your Google Doc
- Highlight the name of your source with your mouse. Example: (Image Source: CNN)
- Click on the icon above the transcript section that looks like a globe sitting on a chain link.
- Paste the link to your image and click "OK"
Adding your images
- Scroll down in your story page to the section with the Image* box
- Click "Browse" and choose your TN image from your desktop
- Add the iPhone and iPad images to their respective slots.
- Add the DL to the slideshow slot.
- Add the scroll or thumbnail image.

Cleaning up your script
- Take out all the production cues from your script (AOC, SWV, timecodes, etc.)
- Replace any FLASH cues with ...
- All quotes should be bolded (this includes quotes from graphics and soundbites)
- Delete all pronouncers
- Move your cursor down the left side of the text. There should be ONE space between each of your elements in the body of your story.
- All dashes in your story should be "em dashes". To create the "em dash", hold down option and shift when you press the dash key. Here's an "em dash": --
XML final check
- In the headline, transcript, tags, and summary sections, you'll see a link to the side that says "XML Checker"
- Click on this link for each section and then click "OK' in the window that pops up
- If you end up with some sort of error message in any section of your story, ask a producer to take a look
- If everything is good to go, scroll down the very bottom of your story page and click "Add Video"
