How to capture elements
You can use the following tools to capture your graphic screenshots and videos: Snapz, Grab, TVEyes, and Snapstream.
SnapzUse Snapz to capture video or audio directly from a website. Click on the Snapz icon on your dock and choose "Movie" Set the borders around the video you want to record and push enter. When you're ready to stop recording, click on the Snapz icon on your dock again. The .mov should appear on your desktop. Snapz is available on all newsroom computers. Ask a staff member about installing it on your laptop, if you prefer.

GrabUse Grab to capture your graphic sources. When you find an article you want to use, shrink the article by using command - . Click the grab icon on your dock and choose "selection" under the "capture" option. Use your mouse or trackpad to draw a box around the part of the article you want. See examples here. Grab is available on all newsroom computers. It is likely you have it on your own computer as well (you would find it in Applications/Utilities).

TV Eyes
Tv Eyes monitors pretty much everything on TV. Search for a keyword - and it will show you clips of when that word appeared on local and national news programs. You can access TV Eyes from your own laptop.

Snapstream
SnapStream also records large blocks of news programs. It runs on the Windows operating system, so start off by choosing the Parallels icon on your icon dock. This program is only installed on a few computers in the newsroom. Once it opens, double-click the SnapStream icon on the Windows desktop.
- Choose the Media server
- Choose Search Recordings
- Enter in a search term and browse results
- When you find a clip you want to use, choose the clip editor tool from the top right corner of the window
- Set a start and end point and the choose clip
- Name the clip DATESLUG_SOURCE Ex: 0117Kittens_CNN
- Go back to the home page by clicking the back arrow and then the home button
- Choose Recorded Shows
- Use the navigation bar to get to My Clips
- Click on the clip you want and choose Download recording
- IMPORTANT: You will have to change the downloaded file (which will be a .mpg) into a .mov file before loading it to the server. Click here to find how to do that.
