Anchoring @ Newsy
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Newsy help me work on my anchoring skills?
While anchoring is not an official part of the Newsy class, we understand many people who take the course are interested in working on air. We have several seasoned anchors on hand who are willing to coach those interested in polishing their on-air presence. We will hold a handful of anchoring sessions throughout the semester.
If you'd like to set up a time to work on your anchoring skills, set up an appointment with Flink.
Can I anchor the stories I write while in the Newsy class?
About halfway through the semester- you will be able to anchor the stories you write; however, those stories will not be used on Newsy. You may post them to your personal website or use them as part of your resume reel. You will be responsible for editing anything you've anchored for personal use. In a handful of cases, management will approve students for air while they are enrolled in the course.
How do I become an official anchor for Newsy?
All Newsy anchors are paid employees and there are generally only about eight anchors on staff at any one time. If you are interested in working as a part time anchor for Newsy, please talk with Flink at the end of the semester.
